Minimooning in Medellín, Colombia

For those short on time or budget for an extended honeymoon getaway, mini-moons can be the perfect compromise! After a whirlwind few days celebrating our wedding in Curacao, we took a mini-moon to Medellín, Colombia. Though we were already on a tropical island, after days of running around Curacao for wedding tasks and hosting guests, we were ready for a change! Our mini-moon gave us space for private R&R and a new, exciting experience to share together. Our flight to Medellín was a short hour away and we spent three fantastic nights exploring together. 

On our first day in the city, we frolicked around Botero Plaza - a city plaza adorned with beautiful sculpture art and made a stop to the Museo de Antioquia. Later we caught the metro to the Acevedo station and jumped on one of two metro-cable cars in the city. These "urban gondolas" were initially built to provide easier city access to neighborhoods higher up the mountainsides. The cable cars providing a panoramic view of Medellín iconic architecture, lush topography and the vibrant street art. 

The next day, we hired a driver to take us to Guatape, a pueblo two hours from Medellin. Guatape is a popular weekend destination, situated alongside man-made lakes and featuring bright colorful buildings. It is also home to El Peñol, a huge monolithic stone, formed million of years ago. A secure staircase etched out of the side of the stone makes it accessible to climb. After 748 steps up, we were at the highest point, 7000 feet up and blown away by sweeping 360 views.

Needless to say we had a fantastic mini-moon! It was our first time in Colombia and South America, which made this trip even more special. I would highly suggest taking time with your honey to recharge and relax after your wedding. If a long honeymoon isn't possible at the moment, a mini-moon provides you the option to create wonderful first memories together as husband and wife!
